Purchase your VCU plate through the Virginia DMV website. Be sure to have your current vehicle registration card handy – you will need your car’s title number and the last four digits of your vehicle identification number (VIN).
The plate fee is $25 annually (in addition to DMV’s registration fee). Personalization of up to 6 characters on the plate is available for an additional $10 annually.
Typically, you can expect to receive your plate (including registration and decals) from the Virginia DMV within 30 days of placing your order.
We’re glad you love Black and Gold! All you need to do is order your new plate by going in person to your local Virginia DMV or visit the DMV website to order online. Be sure to review what Virginia law requires you to do with your old license plate once your new plate arrives.
Currently, only drivers registered through the Virginia DMV can purchase a plate. However, the DMV does offer an option to purchase souvenir plates. It’s important to know that the souvenir plates are not part of DMV’s revenue-sharing program and do not support scholarships.
